Anthropic Prepares for Historic $2 Trillion AI Market Debut

Per 36Kr's reporting, Anthropic is heading for an October listing worth north of $2 trillion — a figure not set by the company but reverse-engineered by six of its own investors, each running independent models that converged on the same range. One model priced it above $3 trillion on an 800% growth curve. Internal executives reportedly never finalized a target. If it prints, the IPO shatters SpaceX's $1.77 trillion benchmark from June — a record that barely survived two months — and compresses into five years what took Apple four decades post-IPO.

The multiple on a number that doesn't exist yet

Banks are pricing the deal on a forward revenue multiple anchored to 2028. Anthropic's internal forecast — first reported by Reuters and cited by 36Kr — projects $190–200 billion in revenue for that year. Skipping 2026 and 2027 to pin a valuation on a financial statement two years out is unusual even by software-company standards. The trajectory, though, supplies the justification: ARR ran from $9 billion at end-2025 to $47 billion by May. Q2 revenue hit $11.5 billion, up 14x year-over-year from $787 million. The five-year sprint from zero to $2 trillion is the pitch. The forward leverage is the risk.

The revenue engine

Roughly 70–80% of revenue comes from APIs and enterprise contracts, billed by tokens — enterprise call volume, not consumer subscriptions. That line went from $500 million ARR in September 2025 to $2.5 billion by February 2026. Five months, five times. It now contributes around 20% of total revenue. Usage data corroborates: Claude Code's share of public GitHub commits climbed from 4% to over 10%. Per 36Kr, Uber's CTO has indicated the company's full-year AI budget was exhausted in four months, overwhelmingly on Claude Code and Cursor. Monthly API consumption per engineer at Uber runs $500–$2,000; internal adoption reportedly jumped from 32% to 84%. The demand is real. The concentration in a handful of enterprise wallets is the second-order risk nobody is pricing.

The cap table reality check

Six investors priced the deal without an internal anchor. One model used 800% growth — a number that demands near-perfect execution through 2028. Public markets will be underwriting a $2 trillion capitalization built on a revenue line that exists only in a spreadsheet. The burn rate behind that growth remains undisclosed. OpenAI's parallel $1 trillion pursuit, per Yahoo Finance, carries a separate constraint: SoftBank's $40 billion loan deadline in 2027. Two frontier labs, the same window, the same bet — that public markets will tolerate multiples punishing any quarterly miss. The question isn't whether Anthropic can grow. It's whether late-stage investors can exit without breaking the multiple.
